Agneta Odera

Dr. Agneta Odera is a Pediatric General and Cardiothoracic surgeon currently based at Tenwek Hospital. She holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from University of Nairobi, Kenya. Dr. Odera is a 2012 graduate of the College of Surgeons of East Central and Southern Africa (COSECSA) as well as the Pan African Academy of Christian Surgeons  (in affiliation with Loma Linda University) in general surgery and then obtained sub- specialty fellowship training in Pediatric Surgery (2018) and Cardiothoracic surgery (2021).

At Tenwek Hospital, she works as the head of theatre operations and serves as faculty member training and mentoring interns, residents, and fellows with COSECSA/PAACS. Ms. Odera is involved in local and International Christian Medical Dental Association, CMDA as well as Global Health Missions Conference, GHMC. She also provides surgical care to the needy and under-served, with a career goal of establishing a practice with like-minded collogues in a center of excellence and research for resource limited settings.

Dr. Odera is especially interested in empowering females in leadership roles at the work place while embracing their femininity, given abilities and other roles. She also passionate in empowering and driving research in Africa for Africa. Ms. Odera is a very proud member and the immediate past chairperson of Women in Surgery Africa (WiSA) 2019-2022. Her passion is to capture the essence of what it takes to be a thriving woman surgeon, to celebrate the uniqueness that allows them to successfully balance multiple roles and to challenge them to greatness and leadership with lasting legacy.
