Vivian Gahtan, MD
Dr. Vivian Gahtan is the John P. Igini M.D. Professor of Surgery and Chair of Surgery at Loyola University Chicago and Loyola University Medical Center. She received her M.D. from George Washington University and completed her General Surgery and Vascular Surgery Residencies at the University of South Florida. She is board certified in both Vascular Surgery and General Surgery. She was the first woman president of the Eastern Vascular Society and the first woman Chair of the Vascular Surgery Board of the American Board of Surgery. She practices vascular surgery and maintains a basic science research lab. Her clinical practice now focuses on dialysis access and venous disease. Her research includes extracellular matrix-smooth muscle cell interactions, pleiotropic effects of statin drugs, and vascular surgery procedure outcomes. She has made regional, national and international presentations in vascular surgery and biology and has written numerous book chapters, reviews and peer-reviewed journal publications.
