Scott Gallagher, MD, FACS DABS is a general surgeon, with subspecialty interests in MIS/Endocrine & Bariatric surgery.

After medical school at Ohio State and residency/research training at USF, Dr. Gallagher joined the faculty at USF Health in Tampa, where he helped build the Bariatric Surgery program and became the only Endocrine Surgeon. He was recruited away from academic surgery in 2011 to become the Founding Director of the Novant Acute Care Surgery Program in Winston Salem, where he developed the ACS service as the original Medical Director at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center (the 900-bed, tertiary care, flagship hospital for Novant Health). Building on that experience, Dr. Gallagher was recruited back to academic surgery at Duke in 2018 to build and lead the new Duke Raleigh ACS Program and General Surgery, where he also serves as the Director of Nutrition/TPN Services at DRAH.
He is a member of multiple professional organizations including the American College of Surgeons, most recently Past-Chair of the Committee on Inter-Professional Education & Practice through which he served for 6 years on the ARC-PA (the Accreditation Review Commission for the Education of the Physician Assistant, the sole accrediting body for PA programs) and just finished his 7th year as liaison to the National Board for Surgical Technology & Surgical Assisting (the primary credentialing organization for surgical technologists and surgical first assistants.) He has numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters; when not teaching or doing research, he enjoys playing the piano and traveling with family and friends.
